The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club’s brands include men’s’ and women’s’ professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park. The Club has a rich history, including MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007) and in-season tournament championships for both the Dynamo (2018 and 2023) and Dash (2020) and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Coordinator, Social Media and Communications will play a pivotal role in enhancing the Houston Dynamo Football Club's brand presence and engagement across various online and offline platforms. This individual will be responsible for assisting with the management of social media channels including the oversight of specific channels and community engagement, supporting, executing strategic communication plans, and coordinating public relations efforts to amplify the club's visibility and reputation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in implementing comprehensive social media strategies to increase fan engagement, followership, and brand awareness while monitoring content and community conversations for optimization and intentional engagement opportunities. Create and curate compelling content for various social media platforms, including Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok and Snapchat. Monitor player and other social media channels for buzz and sentiment related to the Club. Collaborate with internal teams to generate content ideas, including graphics, videos, and written posts, aligned with brand identity and messaging. Manage the Club's online reputation by promptly addressing inquiries, feedback, and concerns from fans and followers. Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media contacts, journalists, and influencers to secure coverage and maximize exposure for the Club. Draft press releases, media pitches, and other communications materials to announce news, events, and initiatives. Coordinate media interviews, press conferences, and other public appearances for players, coaches, and executives. Monitor and analyze media coverage and social media performance to track metrics, identify trends, and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in public relations and social media to continuously improve strategies and tactics.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or related field.
- Previous experience (2+ years) in social media management, public relations, or digital marketing, preferably in the sports industry.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft engaging content tailored to different audiences and platforms.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with media contacts and influencers.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks effectively, and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in social media management tools, analytics platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Creative thinker with a passion for sports and a deep understanding of fan engagement strategies.
