Overview
The Security Officer is a part-time, hourly position that reports to the Security Supervisor. The Security Officer will be responsible for protecting the McCormick Place Convention Center campus, and it's visitors, staff, asets and vendors.
The Security Officer provides general protection of facility property and personnel; monitors facility and protects against fire, damage and theft; provides general information and assistance to facility guests; and serves as the lead for all base security systems. In the absence of Security Supervisor, the Security Officer may receive event-related instructions from Event Managers or general instructions from the Manager on Duty and/or the Assistant General Manager.
This role will pay an hourly wage of $25.30.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Stands watch at security posts for the purpose of protecting and controlling access to buildings, property, and equipment.
- Protects the premises from unauthorized entry, crime, vandalism, fire, and other safety hazards.
- Issues parking violations when appropriate.
- Checks identification/credentials of visitors and ensures all persons entering facilities are processed through established Building Entrance and Exit Procedures.
- Follows and enforces all McCormick Square policies/procedures, rules/regulations, and emergency procedures.
- Maintains a working knowledge of all emergency policies, procedures, and regulations to be able to respond to alarms, incidents, and emergency situations.
- Successfully completes all in-service training programs.
- Remains alert and focused on all activity in assigned area.
- May perform control room duties such as answering telephones and/or monitoring security systems.
- Performs vehicular patrols of McCormick Square.
- Performs access control duties requiring the opening and closing of rooms, gates, and critical areas.
- Performs walking patrols of building corridors, lobbies, grounds, and work site areas.
- Maintains the ability to use technology (radio, computer, etc.) to read, communicate and write reports.
- Prepares accurate and detailed reports clearly articulating activity during shift such as property damage, unusual occurrences, presence of unauthorized persons etc.
- Directs vehicular/pedestrian traffic in order to maintain orderly movement.
- Interacts with patrons, vendors, and employees in a courteous and professional manner. Assists tenants and visitors with directions and general business information.
- Maintains strict confidentiality due to the position and the nature of security operations.
- Maintains a professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisor responsibility.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Associate or Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as a security guard in a sports and entertainment venue involving extensive contact with the public.
- S. Military Veterans preferred. Must have been honorably discharged from the armed services of the United States after serving active military duty.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment during high tension and stressful situations.
- Must exercise strong customer service skills that enhance the visitor experience.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills: both verbal and written.
- Must be able to work any of the three shifts at McCormick Place. Shifts generally are 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am
- Must be able to work evening or weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to pass Pre-employment drug screen and criminal Background check
TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS
- Ability to operate a computer, smart phone/tablet and associated programs.
- Ability to use standard office equipment such as a copier.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must acquire and maintain a valid driver’s license within 90 days of date of hire.
- Must acquire and maintain a valid PERC card within 90 days of date of hire.
- CPR/AED certification preferred but will provide if necessary.

Physical requirements include the ability to stand for long periods of time (8 hours or more) and/or extensive walking throughout the McCormick Place Campus. Must be able to climb steps, run, and lift up to 40 lbs. Security posts are indoor and outdoor and may require an officer to work irregular hours. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
HOURS OF WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional overtime may be needed depending on operational needs. No travel required.
