POSITION SUMMARY
USA Lacrosse is looking for a summer Intern to work with our National Teams (NT) department.  The National Teams Intern gets to work with all members of the National Teams department to assist with the management and coordination of USA Lacrosse's events by completing a variety of administrative tasks and executing projects associated with our events for our National Teams and National Team Developmental Program.    

We are looking for an energetic, hands-on, "go-getter" who will approach each day with enthusiasm and respect for the role they are playing to support the top athletes in our sport and in the United States.  If you are looking to gain hands on experience in event planning and sports management in an operational role this is an excellent opportunity for you.  You will get to play an integral role in supporting the National Teams department in preparing for the upcoming World Championships in 2024, as well as the National Team Developmental Program with regional tryouts and Combine.  This position will start in June and end in mid-August 2024. 

Please note, this position will require you to live in the Baltimore area with your own housing and transportation as you will need to work in the headquarters office in Sparks, MD.    

A Typical Day Looks Like…
  • Provides administrative support to our National Teams (NT) and National Teams Developmental Program (NTDP) department.  This will include responsibilities such as answering email and phone inquiries, coordinating mailings, and compiling and maintaining documents and files.  
  • Provides assistance to the NTDP Manager and NT Managers by coordinating and running player tryouts, training camps, and assisting with World Championships.   
  • Takes the lead on managing registration activities for NT and NTDP events.  This includes following up with athletes to gather any missing information.
  • Communicates with volunteers, providing necessary information on upcoming events.    
  • Assists with organizing and distributing team equipment and apparel.  
  • Assists with retail operations at events.  
  • Assists with packing for events and shipping out equipment.
  • Provides on-site assistance with NTDP Regional and Combine stages of the program and NT tryouts and training camps.

    • What did you learn about USA Lacrosse. 
    • What did you learn about your field of study and the responsibilities of the department you worked in. 
    • Explain your roles and responsibilities and talk about any project(s) you did.   
    • Reflect on skills and work habits you learned that you will take with you as you start your career.  
    • Reflect on skills and work habits you learned that you will not be taking with you as you start your career.   
 
Is This You…
  • Current college student working toward a Bachelor's degree, preferred degree/field of study would be sport administration/operations and/or event management.   
  • Previous working experience in some capacity.  
  • Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.  
  • Enthusiastic go-getter with a “roll up your sleeves” and “get it done” attitude. 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, follow up/through skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.  
  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, verbal and written. 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  Must possess a strong “customer first” attitude.     
  • Ability to exercise the appropriate level of discretion and judgement with the capability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information and materials.   
  • Ability to present a professional persona and presence to build relationships and establish credibility.   
  • Ability to be flexible with your work schedule, including the ability to work some nights and weekends based on event schedules.   
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity, inclusion, and equity in mind.

Expected Hours of Work
This position is generally expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and occasionally requires longer hours or weekend work as related to events and other business needs.  This position will work from the headquarters office in Sparks, MD between 30 and 40 hours per week.
