Oakland Roots Sports Club is a professional soccer team which competes in the USL Championship (USL-C), the largest pro soccer league in the United States. Oakland Soul Sports Club is a pre-professional soccer team that competes in the USL W League. Oakland Roots and Soul are the first, Purpose-driven sports club in the United States. Our Club Purpose is ‘to harness the magic of Oakland and the power of sports as a force for social good’. Position Summary
The Director of Community Engagement is responsible for the execution of the Club’s marketing strategy in the real world, aligning and deploying both digital and physical Club assets in order to create more fans of Oakland Roots & Soul.
This individual will also play a pivotal role in fostering critical connections and trusted relationships between Oakland Roots and Soul Sports Club and the diverse communities of both Oakland and the greater East Bay region and will lead initiatives to engage, empower, and amplify the voices of community members, ensuring that the club's values align closely with the needs and aspirations of the local population. The ideal candidate will be passionate about sports, community development, and social impact, with a proven track record of building inclusive and vibrant communities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Community Engagement Strategy: Design and execute a comprehensive community engagement strategy that aligns with the club's mission, values, and objectives. This includes establishing goals, identifying key stakeholders, and implementing initiatives to strengthen community connections. Utilize targeted outreach and inclusive programming to reach individuals not previously engaged with the club. Grow the supporter base to expand revenue opportunities and ensure long-term sustainability.
- Drive attendance at games and events by creating a sense of belonging and excitement within the community.
- Develop initiatives to encourage community members to attend games and participate in club activities.
- Implement strategies to increase ticket sales and enhance the overall fan experience.
- Build and maintain Community Partnerships: Cultivate and nurture relationships with local organizations, schools, businesses, and community leaders to identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership. Work closely with these partners to develop programs and initiatives that benefit the community and advance shared goals.
- Leverage community relationships to Identify and pursue opportunities to secure additional revenue through sponsorships and partnerships.
Organize Events and Programs: Plan, coordinate, and oversee a variety of community events, programs, and activities that promote inclusivity, diversity, and positive social impact. These may include sports clinics, educational workshops, cultural celebrations, and outreach initiatives. - Facilitate Dialogue and Feedback: Serve as a bridge between the club and the community, facilitating open communication channels and soliciting feedback from residents, supporters, and stakeholders. Actively listen to community concerns, ideas, and suggestions, and incorporate them into club initiatives and decision-making processes.
- Manage Outreach and Communications: Oversee the development and dissemination of outreach materials, communications, and marketing campaigns to promote community engagement initiatives and events. Utilize various platforms, including social media, email newsletters, and traditional media, to reach and engage diverse audiences.
- Track and Evaluate Impact: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community engagement initiatives, gathering data and feedback to assess impact and identify areas for improvement. Prepare regular reports and presentations for the club’s CMO, leadership and stakeholders, highlighting successes, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in community development, marketing, communications, sports management, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Experience in marketing, community engagement, outreach, or related roles, preferably within the sports industry.
- Deep understanding of the Oakland and East Bay communities, its demographics, socio-economic dynamics, and cultural nuances.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining successful partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, schools, businesses, and government agencies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect authentically with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Excellent project management abilities, with the capacity to plan, execute, and evaluate multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Passion for social impact, diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a commitment to advancing these principles through community engagement efforts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed, to attend events and engage with the community.
Salary Ramge: $85,000-$100,000
