Data Analytics Internship
Position Summary:
The Data Analyst Intern at D.C. United will assist in enhancing processes and soccer operations efficiency through data-driven insights. This position involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets related to player performance and league dynamics. The intern will work closely with the Strategy & Analytics team to develop actionable strategies and improve processes. This role requires a strong foundation in statistical analysis, proficiency in data visualization tools, and a passion for soccer, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of D.C. United. This position is available for either in-person or remote work. This is an unpaid internship.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assist technical staff with data-driven projects and provide support to existing and on-going projects.
· Prepare and clean datasets.
· Design and apply analytical methods to extract insight from existing datasets.
· Research industry-leading practices to provide analyses and insights.
· Analyze both event and tracking data to find trends and takeaways.
· Create engaging, descriptive, and intuitive reports.
· Provide support across the entire soccer department, including ad hoc requests from coaches and other department directors.
Desired Skills:
· Coding and visualization skillsets preferred (R, Python, Shiny, Ggplot2, Matplotlib etc.).
· Interest in working with and/or creating APIs.
· Interest in package management (R, GIT).
· Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
· Energetic and passionate when it comes to using data to solve problems.
· Interest in data engineering, data science, and/or statistical modeling preferred.
Requirements:
· Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and eligible for college credit.
· Area of Study: Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Sports Analytics, or related field.
· Available 20-25 hours per week.
