The Community Relations Coordinator will report to the Director of Marketing for the Charleston Battery. This individual will be responsible for creating and implementing community initiatives and programs, working closely with Marketing and Partnership teams, engaging Charleston’s multicultural communities, fostering positive relationships with local organizations, and representing the team at various community events to grow the Battery’s fan base. The Community Relations Coordinator plays a crucial role in fostering positive relationships between the organization, corporate partners, nonprofit organizations, fans, and local community members.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the planning, development, and execution of Charleston Battery community relations, fan development programs and special events.
  • Work with local schools, community groups, youth soccer programs and other organizations to develop partnerships and implement outreach programs to promote the sport of soccer and the Charleston Battery.
    • Manage programming at the team kids pitches, youth clinics and training facility as part of community outreach initiatives. 
  • Create and manage a schedule of community team events and appearances, including player appearances, community initiatives, and front office/team volunteer opportunities.
  • Coordinate and support player appearances, ensuring a seamless and positive experience for both players and the community.
  • Facilitate communication between players, team management, and other leadership and stakeholders to enhance the impact of player engagements.
  • Monitor, track and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of community relations programs based on performance measures, providing regular reports to team leadership.
  • Lead and coordinate community activations in relation to home games, as well as player appearances 
  • Coordinate and support community-focused matchday elements
  • Collaborate with the Partnerships Department to implement community programs on behalf of team corporate partners for assigned programs. 
  • Stay informed about local issues and trends to identify opportunities for the team to make a meaningful impact.
  • Provide input on social media, web content, calendars and other communication materials pertaining to community programs and events.
  • Drive engagement with target communities on club media channels through on-camera features in video and photo content, including conducting interviews with players or guests, covering sports events, promoting upcoming events, and more. 
  • Collaborating with the marketing and communications teams to promote community initiatives through various channels, including building activation plans around awareness months (Women’s History Month, Pride, Hispanic Heritage Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Black History etc.)
  • Record database of community appearances, donations, autographed items, and inventory
  • Respond to community requests via phone, e-mail, and mail

Requirements:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and cultural competency, including the ability to interact comfortable with people in all walks of life 
  • Professionalism in all interactions with fans, corporate partners, fellow Charleston Battery staff members, and Charleston Battery players, executives, and coaches
  • Punctuality and accountability are essential for all aspects of the role
  • Bilingual skills a plus (Spanish preferred) 
  • Excellent organization skills are required
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and potential holidays, along with the ability to work home games for the 2024 season
  • Experience in fundraising, nonprofit, community relations or related work
  • Experience leading groups of staff and/or volunteers
  • Professional/College sports experience preferred
  • Recent graduate or new professional preferred
