Job Summary
The Communications Strategist will provide project management and strategic communications support to all Communications and Broadcasting departments within Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. The strategist will play a key role in major projects and initiatives that the communications and broadcasting departments are involved with, touching business and baseball, and hockey operations for both the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Reporting to the Director, Communications and Broadcasting, this colleague will collaborate cross-functionally with leaders across our business, ensuring the Communications and Broadcasting Department is represented and progress is tracked as we continue to amaze, inspire, and unite fans across the globe.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic communications and broadcasting support across Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, relaying information on behalf of the department and keeping communications leaders apprised of key events and initiatives elsewhere in the company that impact the department’s operations.
- Serve as project manager for significant communications and broadcasting initiatives, including building timelines, assigning roles, collaborating cross-functionally with relevant departments, and building summary decks for IS+E executive leadership.
- Create and maintain a master communications and broadcasting calendar, helping to foster an efficient business environment in a fast-moving workplace.
- Support the coordination and facilitation of strategic planning sessions – ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and performance.
- Utilize media monitoring, social listening, and broadcast metrics, to track and measure performance across all departmental goals and objectives.
- Assist leaders in identifying areas of strength and weakness and develop strategies to drive meaningful development in both directions – improving deficiencies and maximizing departmental and organizational communications and broadcasting strengths.
- Monitor emerging trends and benchmarks in the communications and broadcasting space, authoring regular reports to department leaders on concepts that could help push our business forward.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Monitor program milestones, deliverables, budget, and objectives – raising risks and issues appropriately.
- Assist the Senior Vice President and other department leaders with administrative tasks and projects as needed, including attending meetings on their behalf to represent the department.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Sport Management, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience of professional business experience, with experience in sports preferred but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and develop actionable insights.
