Basic Function: Support the day-to-day media relations activities for the Club.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Communications Responsibilities
  • Serve as a main point of contact for all credential needs for broadcast, media, opposing teams and staff. Work with Strategic Communications Manager to implement new league-wide credential system with 31 other teams.
  • Work hand-in-hand with departments across the organization to edit internal and external communication to ensure streamlined team messaging across all platforms and audiences, including email marketing, and Season Ticket Member and partner communication. 
  • Create a strategic, long-term plan and lead all publicity efforts for the Club’s international media efforts and initiatives, including in Mexico and regionally in the U.S.
  • Serve as a main point of contact for Club’s community weekly and season-long efforts and other off-the-field player-led initiatives. 
  • Spearhead the training, mentoring and development of the department’s year-long interns. 
  • Lead all publicity efforts for Houston Texans Cheerleaders and Club mascot, TORO, including gameday promotion and other tentpole events and initiatives. 
  • Oversee the development of the weekly game entertainment release, shared with national and local media highlighting the game’s theme and entertainment aspects of gameday.
  • Lead press box set up for each home game, including seating cards, seating charts, booth signs, etc.
  • Cultivate relationships with Houston-area media, including morning and lifestyle shows as well as online publications to garner coverage for off-field and community priorities. 
  • Serve as a contributor for the team’s weekly release.
  • Be present at open practices and during open locker room. 
  • Serve as a contributor for the team’s media guide.
  • Pitch weekly stories to local media and NFL broadcast partners. 
  • Provide significant input related to the formulation of media talking points for key business operations staff members.
  • Work collaboratively with the Partnerships team to pitch new Club partners and high-priority partner events. 
  • Compile Cision reports for all partnership and community-led initiatives.
 
Lone Star Sports and Entertainment
  • Manage credentialing process for all LSSE events, including the Texas Bowl and soccer games. 
  • Attend and actively participate in all LSSE events. 
  • Help maintain the history on previous events.
 
Gameday Duties
  • Oversee department’s gameday staff, including creating pregame, in-game and postgame assignments for each home game.
  • Lead the editing process and compilation of transcripts following each game that are emailed out to media and the Club. 
  • Help with maintaining an efficiently functioning Media Will Call, press box, photo workroom and auditorium for all home games.
  • Help produce postgame notes and information following each game that are emailed out to media and the Club.  
  • Assist with open locker room for media to begin interview sessions.
  • Facilitate postgame interviews with players and broadcast network partners. 
  • Travel with the team to multiple road contests to assist in all communications responsibilities. 
  • Perform various other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by department leadership.
Position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with other Club personnel; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in the Club offices and not in a telecommuting manner.

Skills Required:
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications. 
  • Proficiency in use of Adobe Creative Suite software applications. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a high-energy environment. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently across different mediums such as social media, in person, on the telephone and in writing. 
  • Ability to exercise excellent research skills in order to communicate accurately and authoritatively on a subject. 
  • Working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style. Ability to think creatively in order to identify new and different ways to promote a business, individual, initiative, etc. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships at all levels across the organization and externally. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within designated deadlines. 
  • Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information. 
  • Ability and internal drive to demonstrate a positive, winning attitude and a strong work ethic in the performance of all job responsibilities.  
  • Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish is helpful.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university preferred.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of public or media relations experience with a professional sports team required.
  • Must be bilingual (Spanish and English).
