Nature of Work:

The Communications Coordinator will support the work of the club’s Communications and Digital departments with a focus on First Team media relations and producing written content for the club’s digital channels. This position will also support Rapids 2 and the Rapids Academy with communications needs, as well as providing matchday support for First Team games. The ideal candidate for this role is a sharp writer with a passion for soccer and a keen understanding of the sport. Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or French is preferred, but not required.


Examples of work performed:

  • Create written content for club channels, such match previews, recaps and feature stories on the First Team, Rapids 2 and Rapids Academy
  • Draft press releases for club announcements
  • Assist the Communications Department with matchday responsibilities, including press box management, media credentialing and postgame quote transcriptions
  • Assist in creation of game notes and match storylines
  • Manage content assets for media distribution
  • Attend First Team & Rapids 2 trainings as needed to facilitate media requests
  • Travel to Rapids away games as assigned and serve as primary media contact
  • Maintain the club’s media distribution list and assist in developing segmented lists, along with researching new potential media outlets and blogs to foster relationships
  • Archive and track analytics of ongoing media coverage as well as put together media clips packs
  • Be present at team functions (games, practices, community events, fundraisers, etc.) as assigned to assist with any media coverage or other club needs
  • Attend Rapids 2 games as needed to support the Rapids 2 Communications & Content Manager
  • Other administrative duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of experience working in sports communications, journalism and/or public relations
  • Experience working with professional sports leagues/teams or for an entertainment property is preferred
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or French is preferred
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays and travel as needed

 

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Proficient in AP Style
  • Strong knowledge of soccer and MLS
  • High level of professionalism within a professional sports environment and in media work zones
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Adobe products (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop) a plus
  • Familiarity with asset management systems (e.g., Dropbox)
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment

 

Compensation

  • $21.64 per hour
