The University of Virginia is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. This position has responsibility for ensuring compliance with NCAA, ACC and institutional rules and regulations.

The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance is responsible for providing pertinent and timely compliance information to various internal and external constituencies, responding to questions, and interpreting rules and regulations.

The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance routinely analyzes situations, identifies recommendations, initiates action, and provides guidance on all matters pertaining to their duties. The individual frequently coordinates meetings, disseminates information, and provides instruction to various internal and external constituencies.

The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance monitors processes and systems to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.  The individual uses initiative and experience to resolve issues pertaining to the comprehensive compliance program and works closely with individuals and groups in an effort to build relationships and promote the compliance program.

The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance will work with specific sports that will be determined upon arrival. 

Job Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
  • NCAA Governance – Monitor, analyze and educate relevant stakeholders about NCAA proposals, rules and guidance.
  • Rules Education – Provide education to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitoring – Monitor/review various aspects of NCAA, ACC and institutional rules and regulations and submit documentation as required.
  • Violations, Waivers & Reinstatements – Investigate allegations.  Prepare violation reports, waivers, and reinstatements. 
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Knowledge:
  • Advanced understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of procedures to monitor and enforce rules and regulations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements
  • Education: Juris Doctor or Relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of relevant experience.
